We liked the idea of doing the garment overdye on the jeans instead of on the yarn so that all parts of the jeans would turn red, not only the fabric but also the seams, pockets, selvedge, labels, etc. Producing jeans and then soaking them one by one in Akane in their respective baths, then rinsing and drying them, would involve a lengthy and laborious process but the result would be unbeatable. The idea of overdye quickly came into our heads. Such a natural and beautiful red colour is not obtained with any other plant or sediment furthermore, the Japanese are knowledgeable about this dye like nobody else and have been dyeing with Akane for hundreds of years (since the Edo period). Akane (Madder plant) was the favoured candidate from the get-go. We did not want to go as far as an artificial red, so the path to follow was to experiment with natural dyes. Many Japanese call Redcast or Red Cast fabrics the “true denim”.Īfter a bit of brainstorming we arrived at the idea of making a fabric with that reddish, almost purple indigo hue in the warp and a very natural wine tone in the weft. It is a rather unusual but much appreciated fabric by denim devotees. Like may of you will know, Redcast is a type of denim with a reddish indigo hue. Right from the start we liked the idea of doing something that would enhance the name of our shop. ![]() Whenever we get together we spend hours and hours talking not just about clothes but also about many other things and we usually agree on everything, so we knew that a collaboration with them would lead to jeans of which both parties would be very proud. We admire Tanuki’s work and love their philosophy and how their mixture of tradition and modernity go hand in hand. We met in person around 2018 and ever since, at each one of our meetings, we have been mulling over the idea of doing something together. Although no one knows the exact origin of Smile Dog or where he originally came from, there are some who say that the origins of this entity come from an original picture of The Devil himself.Tanuki was one of the first brands to put their trust in us, making it possible to give life to Redcast almost four years ago. If the victim continues to resist, after an extremely long time, enough to wear down Smile Dog's patience, he will finally manifest into the real world and finally end the victim's suffering, by viciously and painfully killing them, and one story even mentions Smile Dog dragging the souls of his victims down to Hell with him. In some variations of the story, after an extremely long period of resistance, Smile Dog will finally manifest into the real world and will haunt and plague the victim in the real waking world as well as their dream world. Otherwise, they will simply try to avoid sleeping, resulting in death from sleep deprivation and malnourishment (which may be caused by the victim's extreme fear to make them neglect their own health). Smile Dog is very persistent in its goals, able to continue psychologically tormenting and haunting its victim(s) in their dreams for months or even years until they either "spread the word" or they commit suicide (the latter happening much more often). ![]() Thus, amplifying his already terrifying powers to a demonic new level and worsening the nightmares of his victims just as much. If Smile Dog's wish is not granted after three days, the picture will mutate and deform, depicting a much more disturbing and demonic form of Smile Dog (which many fans and theorists have depicted as Smile Dog's True Form). ![]() Deleting or simply not viewing the picture will result in the same thing. What he means by this is that he asks (or, to put it bluntly, blackmailing) that they attach the file and send it to other people. To which it replies with its famous line: "Spread the word". In it, the victim will usually ask what it wants. These dreams will always feature of the Smile Dog. When it is viewed by an individual, the victim will be plagued by tormenting and traumatizing nightmares. Smile Dog is believed to be a demonic creature resembling a grinning Siberian husky which appears in a photograph. Smile Dog's only real goal seems to be to spread the fear of him as far and wide as he possibly can, killing those who defy and resist him, and taking great joy in doing so as well as dragging them to Hell (from where some believe he came).Īlthough the myths and legends about Smile Dog vary from story to story and writer to writer, most Smile Dog stories and descriptions of the creature follow along something like this: He is seemingly always smiling and only seems displeased if his "request" is not fulfilled by his victim. The Smile Dog is a very aggressive, bloodthirsty, dangerous and sadistic entity who endlessly revels in the terror others have of him.
